This Sustainability and Climate Action Policy is formulated and adopted in the academic year 2024–25 to strengthen the University’s commitment towards sustainable development and climate responsibility.

Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be University) is committed to advancing sustainability and addressing climate change through an integrated, institution-wide approach. The University aims to embed environmental responsibility, social equity, and economic resilience into all academic, research, operational, and community engagement activities, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

- Policy Guidelines
5.1 Energy Management and Climate Action
The University commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through efficient energy management, adoption of renewable energy sources, and optimization of campus infrastructure. Energy-efficient technologies, green building practices, and smart systems will be prioritized to reduce energy consumption. Sustainable transportation practices such as shared mobility, electric vehicles, and reduced reliance on fossil fuels will be promoted.
5.2 Water Conservation
The University will implement rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and efficient water management systems to ensure responsible water usage and long-term sustainability.
5.3 Waste Management
Solid waste management will follow the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, with a focus on minimizing landfill waste and promoting circular economy practices. Hazardous and biomedical waste will be managed strictly in accordance with regulatory norms.
5.4 Biodiversity and Green Campus
The University is committed to enhancing biodiversity through tree plantation drives, conservation of natural habitats, and development of eco-friendly landscapes. Efforts will be made to maintain a pollution-free and climate-resilient campus environment.
